Real-time and performance
Our software is based on a real-time operating system (RTOS) and offers maximum determinism and speed. Thanks to an abstraction layer, applications run independently of the underlying RTOS, so the programming interface always remains the same. The hardware is used optimally, task and I/O cycles are synchronized, and behavior remains consistent across the entire B&R I/O system.
Scalable performance and functionality
Automation Runtime adapts seamlessly to controllers of different performance classes and enables easy porting of projects. The runtime environment grows with your requirements: Functions such as visualization, control of ACOPOS Motion systems, CNC modules, or services such as FTP and web servers can be integrated without having to adapt the environment. Uniform programming interfaces and a secure CompactFlash file system ensure consistent development and PC-compliant data storage.
Two operating systems on one device
With a bare-metal hypervisor, real-time control and additional software functions such as data analysis, 3D visualization, or web applications can be combined on a single industrial PC—without any additional hardware.
Support for all relevant programming languages
Automation Runtime supports multiple programming languages such as IEC 61131-3 and C, allowing applications to be developed flexibly in Automation Studio.
Remote maintenance – fully integrated
Automation Runtime forms the powerful foundation of all B&R controllers and ensures that machines run reliably at all times – and remain accessible at all times. With integrated diagnostics and communication functions, Runtime not only supports flexible programming, but also enables secure remote access via Automation-NET. This allows systems to be efficiently monitored, maintained and updated – regardless of location.
