"It already feels like home"

Four months of collaboration in the B&R Community

The B&R Community is a meeting place for technology enthusiasts and engineers. The AI-supported online community offers all users of B&R automation technology a forum for collaboration, sharing ideas and developing innovations. A lot has happened since the launch in November 2023 – an entertaining and fascinating journey. Now it's time to take a closer look at what's happened so far with founder Brittany Langston, Product Manager at B&R.

B&R competence is at home here

"The idea behind the community is to foster a global network of B&R users that facilitates sharing knowledge and finding solutions to everyday challenges," says Langston. With the B&R Community, this has been a complete success: Whether on weekends or at any time of the day or night, 24/7 access makes it easy for all participants to ask questions or provide answers. This is where technology enthusiasts from all over the world – including application engineers at machine manufacturers, integrators, and end users – meet to share their experiences, solve problems together and access the latest resources. The B&R Community is a public and freely accessible personal support system. The AI-based chatbot is ready to provide instant answers and help users diagnose and resolve issues. The user-friendly forum makes sharing technical knowledge effortless. With the integrated translation function, participants can communicate in their preferred language – language barriers are a thing of the past. Some examples of how the community works together.

Highlights from the Knowledge Hub

  • Connection to an SL or SLX safety controller: The advantages and strength of global cooperation are demonstrated by a contribution from the first-level support team in the USA. The Troubleshooting Steps for Connecting to Safety Controllers were developed here; they are the key to a smooth connection. The community has supplemented and further developed the already extensive list with many responses to the forum post.
  • Commissioning a drive component or an axis system in the mapp Motion system: Commissioning motion controllers can be a challenge for newcomers. A contribution from the community with step-by-step instructions for an easier introduction to the world of motion control.
  • EasyUaClnt, the simple wrapper library: Anyone who has ever tried to program a functionality with the AsOpcUac library knows that several function block calls are required for each functionality. The idea behind this library is to provide the user with a clear interface and to encapsulate each functionality in a function block. EasyUaClnt is based on AsOpcUac.

Growing together, learning together

The community makes regional resources available worldwide. From Korean technical guidelines to Spanish technical newsletters to Danish YouTube channels, the community has something for everyone.

Since its launch, experienced members have asked questions, made suggestions, and provided answers on the channel. Langston emphasizes: "With over 1,350 registered members already and consistent daily engagement, it's clear there has been an interest and demand for such a collaborative platform”. These discussions are proof of the effectiveness of collaboration and the need for knowledge sharing in industrial automation.

Each new member in the community brings unique insights and expertise that make the platform even more valuable. Whether a seasoned expert or a newcomer to the world of automation, every participation is critical to the success of the B&R Community. "We cordially invite everyone: Join us and be part of this exciting digital collaboration!"
