A More Compact Path to Motion Control

The new 8LV low-voltage servo motor range and ACOPOS X4 from B&R give OEMs a more compact way to handle multi-axis motion, without the usual wiring overhead. Every additional axis tends to bring more hardware, more cabling, and more pressure on cabinet space. That trade-off is machine builders running into constantly when trying to keep designs compact while pushing for better motion and higher output power.

A Coordinated Solution for the Lower Power Range

8LV and ACOPOS X4 target exactly this problem in the lower power range. The new 8LV motor uses a single hybrid cable for power and feedback, features low cogging torque, and is flange-compatible with the current motor series. ACOPOS X4 handles the control side with compact multi-axis operation, integrated safety, and direct X20 integration. Wiring effort is reduced accordingly. Because the new 8LV combines power and feedback in one cable, installation is simplified and drag chain size is reduced. On the control side, ACOPOS X4 brings SafeMotion technology and transmits safety data over the standard network, eliminating separate safety wiring. Combined with integrated encoder technology, safety extends seamlessly from the motor to the drive.

With the new 8LV and ACOPOS X4, we wanted to give OEMs a way to add motion axes without the wiring and space penalty that normally comes with it. Combining power and feedback in a single cable, and integrating safety directly over the encoder technology, are both steps toward that.

Compact Architecture

One ACOPOS X4 module drives up to four servo motors, which keeps the architecture compact. Since it sits within the X20 system, motion, control and I/O run on one scalable platform, and a 50-µs control cycle keeps things responsive and precise. For OEMs building the next generation of machines, that means less cabinet space, less wiring, and safety-integrated multi-axis motion — without adding complexity to the overall design.
