Bringing deterministic field-level communication to life with OPC UA FX C2C & C2D
OPC UA FX Technology Package combines software, controllers, drives and network components into a single, cyber-secure solution. For customers, the key advantage is clear: true interoperability. Systems can be integrated more easily, engineering effort is reduced, and automation architectures become scalable and future-proof.
The first major milestone of OPC UA FX was reached with the publication of the C2C (Controller-to-Controller) specifications in November 2024.
This release enables controllers from different vendors to exchange process and diagnostic data in real time. B&R is one of the first automation companies to incorporate this innovation into its products.
Industrial PCs, network and bus modules, as well as PLCs from B&R come with built-in support for OPC UA FX C2C communication, providing customers with an open, vendor-independent foundation for next-generation automation architectures.
Automation Studio and Automation Runtime further enhance this openness with flexible native configurations, enabling the seamless integration of OPC UA FX and other connectivity technologies for rapid and efficient system development.
The next development phase is already in progress: C2D (Controller-to-Device) communication. This will extend the OPC UA FX concept to the field level, enabling drives, I/O modules, sensors, and instruments to communicate directly via OPC UA FX.
With ACOPOS M4, B&R introduces the first OPC UA FX-ready motion system, which – together with the comprehensive B&R integrated OPC UA FX system – paves the way for a truly plug-and-produce automation solution
