Release Notes - Version RDM-9.6-SM

** Bug
* [RD-4109] - OPC UA connection timeout issues could result in non-recoverable OPC UA Server state
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to DCM
In some OPC UA server server implementations timeout issues could result in a BadSessionIdInvalid
response being triggered, causing the DCM OPC UA collector to immediately attempt reconnecting.
This could result in the PLC going into a non-recoverable fault state, and the only way to bring
the OPC UA server back online could be to disable it in its programming tool and re-enable it again.
To mitigate this the OPC-UA collector has been redesigned to use multiple threads which improves
timing and avoids session timeouts.
==================
* [RD-4339] - Vendor serial agents cannot connect, but custom serial agents can
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to all SM hardware versions
A regression introduced in release 9.4 resulted in the serial settings for vendor specific agents
not being inspected properly, resulting in the agents in most cases would not work, while applying
the same agent as a custom agent worked fine. This is fixed
==================
* [RD-4445] - SiteManager xx49 unable to recover from losing wifi link
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to SM xx49 models
The GateManager watchdog option "Reset modem only" could have undesired effects for the integrated
WiFi module, and has been replaced with the option "Reboot after 1 hour".
===================
* [RD-4504] - WiFi AP via USB should not be possible to enable for DEV2 and DEV3
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to SM 1529/1539/3529/3539 models
An error in the configuration UI made it possible to enable AP mode for DEV2 and DEV3 when using
an external WiFi module, which resulted in a successful WiFi connection, but no DHCP addressed were
assigned. Now WiFi AP mode can only be applied to DEV1 as originally intended.
==================
* [RD-4544] - SM 11xx/33xx models could hang after a few days uptime
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to SM HW models 11xx/33xx
A memory allocation error in relation to the Linux kernel upgrade in release 9.5 could result in the
SM exhausting its memory after 5-6 days, and in worst case the reboot watchdog would not bring the
SM back online automatically, but require a physical reboot. The issue has only been seen on
4G models (1139/3339), but could potentially happen on any 11xx/33xx model. The error was fixed in
patch release 9.5.621364028, and subsequently also included in release 9.6.
==================
* [RD-4568] - Http Collector RAW option returns error on all parsing requests
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to DCM
The HTTP Collector RAW option was broken. This has been fixed
==================
* [RD-4688] - Connection Watchdog default setting is changed to "Reboot after 1 hour"
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to all SM HW products
In some cases, especially in relation to longer Uplink outages, the SM could end a state where it
would not recover due to the setting of the Connection Watchdog. Now the default setting of the
Connection Watchdog is changed to "Reboot after 1 hour" for all models.
==================
* [RD-4692] - Error when adding the 8th Data server in the DCM JSON configuration
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to DCM
The DCM is specified to support up to 8 concurrent data servers. However, adding the 8th server
would result in an internal error due to an error in the JSON config parsing. This is fixed.
==================
* [RD-4730] - Logtunnel FTP/NAT handler selects wrong IP for data tunnel
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to all SM and SM-E models
When using the FTP over a LogTunnel Master, the SM would report the IP of the server instead of
the LogTunnel IP alias for the passive mode "random" port. This has been changed to select the
control tunnel IP (= the LogTunnel target address) for the data tunnel. In addition now FTP NAT
is handled if all tcp ports are forwarded.
==================
* [RD-4757] - Changing MTU size/mode on UPLINK will break the connection
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to all SM 15xx/35xx models
Due to an error introduced with the kernel upgrade in release 9.5, changing the MTU size or mode
for the Uplink interface would result in the interface going down and a connection loss. This has
been fixed.
==================
* [RD-4762] - Interface Statistic Bytes counters stop at 4 GB
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to all SM 15xx/35xx models
Due to an error introduced with the kernel upgrade in release 9.5, the Bytes counter of the Interface
Statistics view in the Status>Network menu, would limit to 32bit. This has been fixed.
==================
* [RD-4856] - DCM opc-ua collector crashes during shutdown

** Story
* [RD-3743] - Agent device status monitoring extended to support TCP in addition to ICMP ping
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to SM HW and SME Linux/Windows
The normal ICMP ping is often blocked by firewalls, which would prevent the SM agents from monitoring
device online/offline status. Now the SM will attempt both ICMP and TCP to query device status, still
with a preference for ICMP. The TCP query will by default use the first service port defined by the
agent, or fall back to TCP port 7 (echo service) if there are no standard services on the agent.
It is possible to add a +tcp flag to an agent to enforce using only TCP query.
For example status monitoring of a Windows 10 PC via a Remote Desktop PC (RDP) agent will now work,
even if ICMP is blocked as it is by default on Windows 10.
==================
* [RD-4016] - Add optional HTTPS support for agent Go To Appliance.
==== RELEASE NOTE ====
Applicable to all SM and SM-E models
For most agents which didn't already support HTTPS, it is now possible to select the HTTPS service
(on port 443) instead of the HTTP service (on port 80).
Note that selecting the HTTPS option (when it is present) replaces the HTTP service.
===================
* [RD-4372] - Automatic renew of DCM certificates and private keys from DCC
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to DCM
With release 1.9 of DCC, the DCC can automatically renew certificates and private keys about to
expire in a connected DCM. NOTE that if not updating to the release, the DCM will be rejected by
DCC when certificates or private keys expire, and you need to manually regenerate the files on DCC
and copy into the DCM certificate store.
==================
* [RD-4429] - Optimized Layer2 agent support in DEV1-3 separation mode
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to SM 15xx/35xx models
It is now possible to define Layer 2 agents on all three DEV ports in separation mode. Also VLAN
tags are now forwarded between bridged DEV ports, also when another DEV port is in separation mode.
Multiple LinkManager users can connect to the same L2 agent simultaneously. A given LM can connect
to only a single L2 agent at a time.
A "Connect All" will still exclude L2 agents. It is, however, possible to define agent groups, and
connect to multiple L2 agents simultaneously, although this feature is exploratory and possible side
effects are unknown.
==================
* [RD-4519] - New button for Clearing old Network Operator scan results
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to SM HW xx39 models
In rare cases the SM may not be able to connect to a broadband carrier, due to cached carrier operator
data if the SM had been connected to other operators in the past. It is now possible to clear the cache
under System>Uplink2>Diagnostics.
==================
* [RD-4603] - Update third party modules with CVE fixes that does not affect the product
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to GM and all SM products
The Secomea regression test pipeline would report CVE alerts on third party modules for functions
or code that are disabled (not used) or excluded. To avoid false positives from researchers or tools
that compare module versions with CVE registers, all modules have been updated to versions without CVEs.
==================
* [RD-4774] - Firmware upgrade via SM GUI may reboot SiteManager before firmware upgrade if required.
====RELEASE NOTE=====
Applicable to all SM 11xx/33xx models
Certain SiteManager models running some versions of the previous 9.5 firmware release may have an issue
with upgrading firmware if the SiteManager is running low on memory after some time of operation.
To ensure problem-free upgrades of those SiteManagers, the new SiteManager firmware image includes a check
for the low memory condition and if necessary, it cancels the installation of the new firmware and
automatically reboots the SiteManager. When this happens, the user is informed about the reboot and
is instructed to repeat the firmware upgrade as soon as the SiteManager has restarted.
