Your B&R Team
Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT) require seamless and consistent communication. Together, POWERLINK and OPC UA are integrating communication from the sensor layer to the ERP layer – without any interfaces whatsoever. This was the message conveyed by Stefan Schönegger, managing director of the EPSG, and Thomas J. Burke, president of the OPC Foundation.
Light curtains have been used for many years now to protect operators of machinery and equipment. Conventional light curtains, however, are very inflexible – they are known to hinder the implementation of modern design concepts.
It is for this reason that the EPSG together with Datalogic developed an openSAFETY profile for intelligent light curtains. The overlying openSAFETY protocol replaces the hardwiring that used to be necessary. "Since no safe I/O channels are necessary, an application with openSAFETY light curtains is less expensive than a hardwired solution."
Miodrag Veselic, B&R's openSAFETY technology manager, explains what other benefits you can expect. .
