Power grid requirements and certifications challenging the industry

Stricter power grid requirements and new safety requirements in the certification guidelines represent a great challenge to wind turbine manufacturers. Issues concerning mass production, system networking, offshore conditions and use of the latest IT and communication developments also have to be considered. Existing structures cannot always stand up to these complex requirements; however, B&R is the perfect partner to help you meet such demands.

Integrated safety technology

Our wide range of products, including analog and digital safety technology as well as safe speed measurement, allows the GL2010 safety requirements to be met uncompromisingly and efficiently. Perfect integration permits simple interaction with the standard controller without extra costs and also allows remote maintenance, remote diagnostics and remote acknowledgment for safety applications. Integrated safety technology from B&R provides totally new possibilities, actively supports series production and system service tasks and can help reduce the load on the system.

B&R – An independent automation partner

More than 2500 OEM machine manufacturers take advantage of B&R automation systems. Many are leaders in their specific industries. They place their trust in the innovation and expertise that only B&R can provide. B&R's concentration on the core competencies of automation technology with a long-term strategic focus is a decisive factor, as are the dynamics and independence of being a owner-operated company. We are not driven by short-term trends. Our ability to withstand crises comes from our broad customer base and experience in virtually every industry. Although we take advantage of the synergies generated from our experience in these many different industries, protecting our customers' intellectual property still remains our highest priority.

Harsh conditions and offshore capabilities

In a wide variety of applications, B&R automation products also have to prove themselves outside of factory buildings. These include oil extraction, ship-based mining and pipeline monitoring applications as well as power plant automation systems and toll facilities. The approximately 150,000 machines and systems equipped with B&R technology every year guarantee a high level of product maturity. This is demonstrated and documented using appropriate tests and certifications. In addition to standard tests, important components also have GL certification and are subjected to HALT testing. Even standard components are specified for a wide temperature range of -25 to +60 degrees Celsius. Coated components and Mobile Automation products are also available for extreme conditions. This allows us to meet demands even in the harshest conditions.

Stability and investment security

A calculable development process guarantees the lasting value of machines and systems. Configurable, predefined functions for core tasks and processes reduce software development costs. Individual customer requests can be implemented using software libraries that meet international standards as well as custom function blocks that reflect the technological know-how of the customer. The scalability and complete compatibility of our hardware products guarantee a rapid return on investment for all software being developed. Integrated source control systems, automatic code generation and support for model-based development methods also help users keep track of their software despite changes to development resources or new requirements.
