CPU for the X20 System
The extremely compact X20 CPU
11/15/2005
As they have already done with the X20 System – with 12 channels on an area 12.5 mm wide by far the smallest and most powerful I/O system on the market – B&R's new X20 CPU is also set to establish new standards. Extremely compact but surprising powerful, integrating the X20 CPU into the system is a snap.
Someone who sees the 37.5 mm wide CPU for the first time would probably assume they were dealing with a fieldbus connector instead of a high-performance automation machine. In its standard design, this CPU is equipped with a 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet interface that can be used either as the online interface or for networking. A CAN and RS232 interface are integrated as well.

The CPU's design and installation depth correspond to the X20 System. This immediately becomes clear when connecting I/O modules to the right side of the X20. These are attached seamlessly to the CPU, making the entire system an extreme space saver in the switching cabinet. Helpful and proven rail mechanics allow the complete system to be mounted on the rail like a rack and taken down just as easily.

The extended CPU design can be used if separate Fast Ethernet, CAN, or RS232 interfaces become necessary to meet communication requirements. This CPU is equipped with a 25 mm wide slot for X20 interface modules. This allows the entire range of additional interface modules such as Profibus DP, CANopen, and DeviceNet to be used.
