Not just efficient, but smart: The next generation of Automation Studio - 01/23/2012
With Automation Studio 4, B&R has forged an entirely new path when it comes to smart engineering. Many convenient automated functions as well as true-to-life architecture modeling, version control, support for shared projects and simple object-oriented programming take program design efficiency to a whole new level.

Career orientation for young engineers at B&R - 01/12/2012
Around 200 students from the nearby technical high school (HTBLA) in Braunau were able to get a firsthand look at many different career options during their visit to the B&R Open House held on December 20-21.

Marc Wolf Brings Machine Building Perspective to B&R’s Global Packaging Solutions Group - 01/11/2012
Marc Wolf has joined B&R Industrial Automation in the role of Business Development Manager for the company’s Global Packaging Solutions Group. He will apply his twenty years of packaging machinery expertise to address the automation challenges facing machine builders, packagers and integrators.

Donation to help children with cancer: B&R supporting Project Sonneninsel - 12/19/2011
Building a future for children and teenagers – that is the goal of the Project Sonneninsel (Sun Island) follow-up care program undertaken by the Austrian Childhood Cancer Organization.  Evolving ergonomics with multi-touch - 12/15/2011
In the area of consumer electronics, multi-touch has not only changed the ergonomics of devices, it has changed user habits as well. In industrial automation, this technology has the potential to make machine operation more intuitive, faster and safer - in essence, to bring about a revolution in ergonomics for machine and system visualization units. At the SPS/IPC/Drives exhibition in Nuremberg, B&R introduced devices that allow multi-touch input in industrial environments.

Smart Safe Reaction with openSAFETY for Profinet - 12/06/2011
Now that B&R's SafeLOGIC safety controller is available for Profinet networks, Smart Safe Reaction technology can be quickly and easily integrated into Profinet automation applications. Based on openSAFETY, B&R's Smart Safe Reaction product set is the only integrated safety system that can guarantee response times of 10 ms, which is 10 times faster than previous solutions. The openSAFETY real-time safety bus system is not bound to a single solution and can be used on all conventional Ethernet-based fieldbus network systems up to SIL 3.

Automation Studio is one of the most widely used engineering tools in the industry - 11/29/2011
According to a recent study published by ITQ in cooperation with universities and the trade magazine Computer&AUTOMATION, 16% of all German machine and system manufacturers are already programming their control systems using Automation Studio. Put another way, this means that one in six German machine manufacturers are already working with the B&R software tool.

B&R’s John Kowal elected to PMMI board of directors - 11/18/2011
John Kowal, Packaging Market Development Manager for B&R Industrial Automation, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI) during the trade association’s annual meeting in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania held November 7-9, 2011. Kowal is the first Supplier Member to be elected to the PMMI board, a recognition both of the key role that suppliers play in the advancement of packaging technology, and of the contributions Kowal has made over the past decade of involvement.

New dimensions in decentralized drive architecture - 11/16/2011
B&R is expanding their line of drives with a series of motor-integrated servo drives with IP65 protection. The ACOPOSmulti has always been extremely modular, and it was the next logical step to merge inverters with the motor to create servo actuators that can deliver power directly where it is needed. Configurable modules thus become easy-to-connect mechatronic units. This not only saves valuable space in the control cabinet, but also cuts costs for logistics and commissioning.

X20 System certified for maritime use - 10/19/2011
After extensive testing by the certification institute Germanischer Lloyd (GL), the B&R X20 System has achieved the coveted seal of quality for maritime applications. All of the X20 modules tested - CPUs, I/O modules and bus controllers - proved they have what it takes to meet the high demands on functionality and operational safety required in maritime environments.
